The City of Victorville

The largest city in the Victor Valley is Victorville which combines big-city amenities and a small town charm. With more than 69,000 residents, it is home to everything you need including a wealth of employment opportunities, public and private schools, shopping centers, recreational opportunities, medical facilities, and a library.

Enjoy the changing seasons in the High Desert. Here you'll find wild flowers in the spring, golden leaves in the fall and a few snow flakes during the winter months. Although hot in the summer, the weather is tempered with low humidity. With the average annual rainfall at six inches, the skies are almost always sunny and the air is clean.

EMPLOYMENT

The Victor Valley has been expanding its economic base over the past few years with a number of new companies and jobs relocating here. Officials predict that 5,000 to 15,000 high-paying jobs will be created over the next 20 years.

One reason for this job growth is the Southern California Logistics Airport. Formerly George Air Force Base, this 5,000-acre business complex integrates manufacturing, industrial and office facilities with a dedicated international all-cargo airport.

Situated along the I-15 e-Corridor with global access provided by the freeway, railroads and airport, Victorville has become a key link in the international supply chain.

Among the many companies that are currently located in the Victor Valley are:

  • Roadway Express The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company
  • Sumiden Wire Products AFG Industries
  • Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway BAE Systems
  • Boeing Capital Pratt & Whitney
  • M&M/Mars Consolidated Freightways

EDUCATION

A strong educational focus is an important part of life in High Desert. The Victor Elementary School District, Adelanto Elementary School District and the Victor Valley Union High School District provide exceptional educational programs for the students of Victorville and Adelanto. The following schools serve our communities:

      • Elementary: Eagle Ranch, Bradach
      • Middle Schools: Mesa Linda, Sheppard
      • High Schools - Silverado

There are also a number of private elementary, junior high and high schools in the area including Valley Christian School, Victor Valley Christian School, Victor Valley Seventh-day Adventist School and Zion Lutheran School which are all located in Victorville.

For higher education, The Victor Valley Community College offers more than 70 certificate programs and two associate degrees. Azusa Pacific University and Chapman University also have branches in Victorville, and California State University at San Bernardino is less than 30 miles away.

SHOPPING

Whether you are shopping for groceries, clothing, or garden supplies, you are sure to find what you need just around the corner.

The 500,000 square-foot Mall of Victor Valley features more than 100 stores including Mervyns, JC Penney, Gottschalks and Sears. Other shopping centers offer such stores as Lowes, Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, and Home Depot. In nearby Barstow, you can shop till you drop at the huge Factory Merchant and Tanger outlet malls.

RECREATION

No city is complete without parks and recreational facilities. Here you will find:

  • Parks with basketball courts, ball fields, tennis courts, pools, racquetball courts, soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds and picnic areas
  • Recreation centers with a gymnasium, an auditorium with stage, kitchens and meeting rooms for rent
  • Public and private golf courses with challenging 18-hole fairways for all levels of play
  • Community services department with a full complement of classes including sports, aquatics, computer, art, music, fitness and kids programs

You're close to lots of other recreational venues including Mojave Narrows Regional Park which offers nearby boating, fishing, camping and hiking along the ancient riverbed of the Mojave River. The park is the site of the annual Huck Finn's Country and Bluegrass Jubilee.

If you love to ski or snow board, there are several ski resorts nearby. Mountain High in Wrightwood, and Snow Summit and Bear Mountain in Big Bear are less than an hour away. For spectator sports, there are baseball games with the High Desert Mavericks, a minor league team affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers. The stadium in Adelanto is also used for other events ranging from concerts to championship boxing tournaments and a motorcycle grand prix.
